No Adverse Action for Work Authorization Information Changes
As of June 5, 2026, employers can’t discharge, discriminate, or otherwise take any adverse action against an employee for updating—or trying to update—their personal information due to a lawful change to their federal work authorization documents. This protection applies broadly to anyone whose work authorization status changes, including visa holders and refugees.
