Maryland Expands Veterans Eligible for Employment Preferences

HB 721/SB 243 was approved by the governor on May 12, 2026 and beginning October 1, 2026, Maryland’s veterans’ preference law, which applies to employers of all sizes, will be expanded to allow employers to extend hiring and promotion preferences to veterans with any discharge status except dishonorable. Previously, this allowance was limited to honorably discharged veterans only.
