E-Verify Updates

E-Verify, the internet-based system that helps you quickly confirm a new employee's work status, has had some federal-level changes that may impact your organization we wanted to let you know about.

  • E-Verify+ can help simplify the employment eligibility process by combining the form I-9 and E-Verify into one digital process.

  • E-Verify records more than 10 years old are scheduled for disposal. Employers have until January 4, 2026, to download records for E-Verify cases last updated on or before Dec. 31, 2015.

  • The new "Status Change Report" allows users to review aggregated case data for employees who presented an EAD for employment verification which has now been revoked by DHS.

The report contains the revocation date, case number, and A-number for each affected case and will be regularly updated. It also replaces the use of Case Status Alerts for EAD revocations. Be sure to generate this report regularly to check for any employees whose EAD statuses have been impacted.

  • On April 3, 2025, there was a language adjustment used on the form I-9 and within the E-Verify system: E-Verify and E-Verify+ will have updated the Citizenship Status selection during case creation to reflect this statutory language. The selection “A noncitizen authorized to work” will be updated to “An alien authorized to work.”

  • We also wanted to share this handy resource, so you can learn more about what E-Verify is and if your state requires your organization to use it.
