Louisiana Enacts Unpaid Organ and Bone Marrow Donor Leave
Beginning August 1, 2026, employers of all sizes will need to provide up to 30 consecutive days of job-protected, unpaid leave to any employee who donates an organ or bone marrow.
The law is silent on how this leave interacts with others, but we expect that employers can run this new leave concurrently with the bone marrow donor leave that is already on the books, which provides 40 hours of paid, job-protected leave.
SB 409 was signed by the governor on May 29, 2026.
ACTION ITEM:
Add an organ and bone marrow donor leave policy to your handbook or update your existing policy.
